Physical & Computer Modelling

NDC has specialized expertise in field of computer (Numerical) and Physical Hydraulic Modeling. The hydraulic modelling experts of NDC has carried out 1D/2D/3D Computer/ Numerical and Physical Hydraulic model studies of various hydraulic structures such as spillways, diversion tunnels, flushing tunnels, surge tanks, stilling Basins, Flip/ Roller Bucket of Diamer Basha Dam, Neelum Jhelum Dam, Dasu Hydropower Dam and Keyal Hydropower Dam etc.

NDC is one of the leading firm which has excellence in design of hydraulic structures particularly spillways, stilling basins, diversion tunnels, headworks and barrages which involve extensive numerical and physical modelling for establishing safety against cavitations in spillways, scour downstream of dam barrages, uplift pressure and selection of appropriate locations for river training and flood protection works.

NDC’s structural design team is well versed in computer aided structural design & analysis. NDC experts have been generating computer models for design & analysis of various structures including bridges, culverts, buildings, etc. using applications like SAP 2000, ETABS, STAAD.Pro. In addition to computer model for infrastructural design, Structural Team of NDC have also generated 3D computer models for various hydraulic structures including but not limited to Neelum Jhelum Hydroelectric Project, Diamer Basha Dam Project and Dasu Hydropower Project etc.

In public health engineering sector, NDC’s water and sanitation engineers are well conversant with use of computer applications for design of water supply and sanitation schemes. NDC’s WATSAN Engineers have been efficiently using softwares like WaterGEM, SewerGEM, EPAnet for design of water supply and sewerage / drainage schemes on projects like water supply & sewerage schemes for residential Colonies for WAPDA’s Staff for Dasu Hydropower and Neelum Jhelum Hydroelectric Projects, Model Village at Harpan Das etc.

For stability analysis of structures, slopes, rock mass & stability against landslides, NDC structural / geological / geotechnical experts have been working with international experts for generating computer models to study stability of slopes, rock mass and structures under different conditions. Computer applications like CADAM, SLIDE, SWEDGE, Phase 2, Roclab etc. have been used to carryout stability analysis for design of mega projects like Diamer Basha Dam, Dasu Hydropower, Thakot Hydropower Projects. Besides stability analysis, NDC experts have also been involved in applying mathematical model DAMBREAK on various Hydropower Projects to simulate failure of a dam, computing the resultant outflow hydrograph and simulating movement of the dam break flood wave through the downstream river valley.

For hydrological and sedimentation studies, HEC-RAS 3.1 for water surface modeling, one-dimensional RESSASS modelling for simulation of reservoir sedimentation, empirical BRUNE's trapping efficiency model, Mike 11 for reservoir sedimentation have been used by NDC hydrologists and sediment experts on various projects.

In addition to above, NDC has also achieved excellence in groundwater modelling. NDC’s experts generated groundwater models for: Salinity Control and Reclamation Projects (SCARP) to simulate pumpage of drainage well; model of the aquifer underlying the
Lower Bari Doab Canal command to serve as a tool in formulating and evaluating groundwater management
strategies; groundwater models of Diamer Basha Reservoir & main dam construction pit, using Visual Modflow, to obtain guidance in laying out grout curtain. Similar models have also been developed by NDC’s experts for detailed design of other water sector projects.
